People outdoors enjoying outdoor dining in Greville St Prahran

The City of Stonnington has created opportunities for businesses in Stonnington looking to expand their outdoor trading space to meet the requirements of the Victorian Government's reopening roadmap. This includes establishing our successful outdoor dining program as a permanent option for businesses.

Find out how your business can get involved below.

Roadside Dining applications open

Our Roadside Dining program returns to coincide with the Victorian Government's re-opening roadmap. All permit fees and basic infrastructure costs will be waived for eligible businesses until 30 April 2022.

There's two options for businesses:

  • A Summer Roadside Dining permit to establish a parklet for six months.
  • An annual 365 Roadside Dining permit for businesses looking for a year-round parklet.

Our Roadside dining page includes information about options available to businesses and support available from the City of Stonnington to help make this happen.

Please note that we can only allow roadside dining where safe to do so and businesses already in the program need to make an application to extend their current permits.

Reopening retail

As outlined in the Victorian Government's roadmap, we are excited for the opportunity for retail to reopen outdoors

Businesses looking to use the footpath for a commercial service (such as the display of goods) are required to apply and obtain a footpath trading permit. This is being offered at no cost until 31 December 2021.

Alternatively, if you have a backyard or off-street parking you would like to use for outdoor retail contact our Business Concierge service.

Range of fees waived for businesses

City of Stonnington Councillors recently endorsed close to $800,000 of business and community support initiatives through our COVID Response/Recovery Fund.

This includes a number of support programs for businesses:

  • Waiving a range of business fees including footpath trading permits, health registrations and trader directional signage.
  • A targeted business mentoring program over the next 12 months.
  • A trial program to support young people to stay safe as nightclubs and entertainment precincts re-open.

Businesses do not need to do anything to claim fee refunds or waivers, it will be automatically applied.
