The Australian Government has awarded the city of Stonnington $3.3 million to deliver priority local road projects.
Awarded under Phase 2 of the Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program the funding will go towards nominated works across the city - including road reconstruction and resurfacing projects, kerb and footpath rebuilds, and drainage upgrades.
At the announcement of the successful projects City of Stonnington Mayor, Cr Kate Hely thanked the Federal Government for supporting local councils to deliver important local improvement programs.
“On behalf of the Stonnington Council and community I’d like to thank the federal government for this much-needed funding.
“Through this program we are able to deliver important local roadworks projects and provide jobs to nearly fifty workers.
“The COVID-19 pandemic has hit our infrastructure programs very hard with millions of dollars planned for roadworks diverted to our community and local business support and recovery efforts.
“This funding will help us bring forward the delivery of road improvements works and get us back on track to ensuring our streets are maintained to the highest standard.”
The $3.3 million will fund six local roadworks projects and comes on top of $300,000 previously awarded in May 2020 under Phase 1 of the same program.
Delivery of the projects will start progressively from April and be completed by 31 December 2021.
