Tune in to the incredible birds surrounding us in Stonnington by participating in the Aussie Bird Count during National Bird Week 14-20 October.

The Bird Count is Australia’s largest citizen science event and anyone, anywhere can take part. It’s easy!

Simply spend twenty minutes in an outdoor space and count the number and types of birds you see. Upload your findings via the Aussie Bird Count app or website. You can count as many times as you like!

We can learn a lot about the health of our natural environment from the birds around us. By participating in the Aussie Bird Count, you can help track yearly trends in our bird communities to inform conservation efforts.

Out of the 2410 birds from 56 different species spotted by locals last year in Stonnington, the Rainbow Lorikeet was the City’s most commonly seen bird. How many can we spot this year?

Breakfast with the Birds

To celebrate National Bird Week, we’re hosting a FREE Breakfast with the Birds event at Glen Iris Wetlands on 9-11am Sunday 20 October.

Enjoy a free breakfast before a guided bird tour through the wetlands with experienced local birder Professor Christian Doerig. You’ll also have the opportunity to submit a bird count during the event.

Book your ticket here.

So, whether you watch the birds in your backyard, breakfast with the birds or just want an excuse to get out into nature, be part of the Aussie Bird Count in 2024!
