Guide to planning fees

There are two main types of fees related to planning:

  • Statutory fees
  • Non-statutory fees 

Statutory fees 

Statutory fees relate to permit applications and amendments. They are GST exempt. 

Below are the latest fee schedules:

The fee for an amendment for any combination of the classes of amendment outlined above is the sum of the highest of the fees which would have applied if separate applications were made and 50% of each of the other fees which would have applied if separate applications were made.

a) Under section 57A(3)(a) of the Act the fee to amend an application for a permit after notice is given is 40% of the application fee for that class of permit set out in the Table at regulation 9

b) If an application to amend an application for a permit or amend an application to amend a permit has the effect of changing the class of that permit to a new class, having a higher application fee set out in the Table to regulation 9, the applicant must pay an additional fee being the difference the original class of application and the amended class of permit.

Non-statutory fees 

Non-statutory fees relate to Extension of Time requests and advertising. They are GST exempt. 

Extension of time

The fee for requests to extend the commencement and completion timeframe for a planning permit, is based on the Class of the permit:

  • Class 7, 8 or 9 Permit (VicSmart): $100
  • Class 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6 Permit (single dwelling): $300
  • Class 16, 17, 18, 19 or 20 Permit (subdivision): $500
  • Class 10, 11 or 12 (other development less than $5 million): $600
  • Class 13, 14 or 15 (other development more than $5 million): $850 

Advertising

The following fees apply to all notices of application for a planning permit:

  • Base fee: $125 (includes first 10 letters)
  • Additional letters: $6 each
  • Notice or sign on site: $35 each
