The Duldig Studio is a public house museum, art gallery and sculpture garden in Malvern East. It is the former home and studio of internationally recognised sculptor Karl Duldig (1902 to 1986) and his wife, an artist and inventor, Slawa Horowitz-Duldig (1901 to 1975).
Within the house, a number of rooms are maintained as they were during the family's residence. Karl's original studio, with kiln, tools and work across all periods, has been kept as they were left by the artist. The adjoining garden filled with bronze and terracotta sculptures also remains.
The museum offers the opportunity to explore the story of the family who fled Vienna during World War II and the journey their creative lives took in Vienna, Singapore and Melbourne.
Slawa Horowitz-Duldig invented the modern foldable umbrella, the 'Flirt' and was granted a patent in 1929. Several of the early design prototypes are on display at the museum.
Bespoke tours with a Viennese afternoon and morning tea are available on request for parties of 6 or more. Contact us for further details
