The Italians are famous for simple, delicious food prepared with quality and seasonal produce. Jenna Holmes, AKA Pasta Mama and Plant Mama, celebrates her own take on this concept through Pasta Club - a culinary event project.

Pasta Club events combine the simplicity of Italian cooking with what Jenna describes as a “curated, sensory dining experience.” You may have spied her work on Instagram, where she has a large following.

While in-person dining experiences are on hold for now, Pasta Mama has a special offer for Melbournians. You can order a Pasta Club at Home takeaway pack on Saturday 2 October - but you’ll need to get in quick, they are back by popular demand.

You may be wondering what Pasta Club is exactly?

Under normal circumstances all the fun happens at Revolver Lane in Prahran - a vibrant events and co-working space with vintage tiled floors, a glass atrium ceiling and plenty of plants, of course.

Unlike a regular dining experience, all guests need to do is turn up and Jenna and team take care of the rest.

“We call it a menu-less experience,” Jenna explains. “That gives us the ability to change and write the menu according to what’s in season at the time.”

Sourcing produce locally is important. “We normally go down to Prahran Market for ingredients - I’ll head to Chaso’s Deli for olives and burrata and I’ll get the flowers from the market too.”

On a trip to Sardinia many years ago, Jenna discovered a new intimate way of cooking.

“[I] fell deeply in love with the concept of going to a local restaurant where there would be no menu - you’d just pay per head and trust the chef. I just had these really simple, tasty meals -  vegetarian food with seasonal produce.”

Pasta Club certainly dishes up a Melbourne take on this, and Jenna has exciting plans to expand the project.

For now, it’s a dish best served at home! To get your box of fresh pasta creations, see the Pasta Mama website to book your takeaway pack.
