What’s your story? Writing Competition

1 July – 31 August

We’re calling on all budding and established writers to put pen to paper (or fingers to the keyboard) to start writing for the 2022 What’s Your Story? Writing competition.

A compelling short story, poem or creative writing piece can win you some cash and/or book prizes. Works can be fiction or non-fiction, based on any theme, but must be original and previously unpublished.

To enter the short story and poetry categories you need to be 18 years and living in Victoria, while young people aged 5 to 17 years, who live, go to school or work in Stonnington, are invited to enter one of three creative writing categories.


Word limit
Short story – 1,000 words
Poetry – 40 lines
Creative writing – 300 to 900 words

Entry fee
Free to enter.

Adult – short story – $500
Adult – poetry – $500
Creative writing, youth (ages 5 to 8) – $100 book voucher
Creative writing, youth (ages 9 to 12) – $200 book voucher
Creative writing, youth (ages 13 to 17) – $300 book voucher

This popular annual writing competition is part of the [untitled] Literary Festival, running from 18 – 20 November. Save the date to hear from a rich selection of writers, artists and thinkers as they gather to discuss books, authors, writing and ideas. We’ll have more information about the festival soon.
