The City of Stonnington’s Maternal and Child Health (MCH) team is hosting emergency advice from the experts sessions.

Designed for parents and carers who look after young children and community members, sessions will give you the knowledge and confidence to respond calmly and effectively in emergency situations.

Sessions are presented by Ambulance Victoria.

Monday 29 September - Learn to Save a Life: Call, Push, Shock

Monday 29 September 11am – 12am

Session 1: Call, Push, Shock

Could you save a life in an emergency? This engaging, hands-on session will teach you the three critical steps to take during a sudden cardiac arrest:

  • call Triple Zero (000)
  • push hard and fast on the chest (CPR)
  • shock with an AED (Automated External Defibrillator)

Using a heart prop and interactive mat, we will help remove the fear and hesitation that often stops people from stepping in. You will leave with life-saving knowledge, practical skills, and the confidence to act when every second counts.

Session 2: GoodSAM – Be a Lifesaver with Your Phone

Discover how the GoodSAM app connects trained responders to nearby cardiac arrests, helping save lives before paramedics arrive.

Monday 10 November- Chain of Survival: We Are Better Together

Monday 10 November | 11am – 12pm 

Session 1: Chain of Survival

There are often no warning signs before a cardiac arrest. Know CPR, call help and save a life.

This session will empower you to act quickly by following the Chain of Survival including:

1.Early Recognition & Call for Help 

2.Early CPR 

3. Early Defibrillation: 

4. Early Advanced Care 

5. Post-Resuscitation Care: 

 

Session 2:  We are better Together  

We are Better Together

Emergency Preparedness for Elderly and/or Culturally Diverse Communities 

This presentation is specifically designed for elderly individuals and Culturally and Racially Marginalised (CARM) groups, providing essential information on when to call an ambulance, how to respond in an emergency situation, and where to find resources for non-urgent health concerns. The session aims to increase awareness and confidence in handling emergencies, ensuring that all community members know how to take appropriate action when needed.

Content will also be available in:  Arabic, Chinese, Dari, Karen, Greek, Italian, Hindi, Macedonian, Punjabi, Vietnamese. While our paramedic presenters speak English, we can print or project the presentation in these other languages, allowing participants to follow along.

 

 

 

 

  

 

 

 

 

 

Monday 8 December - Heat Health Awareness: Parents and Caregivers of Young Children

Monday 8 December | 3.30pm – 4.30pm  

Session 1: Heat Health Awareness 

This presentation provides essential tips and strategies for staying safe and healthy during extreme heat conditions. It covers key topics such as recognising heat-related illnesses, staying hydrated, protecting vulnerable populations (such as the elderly and young children), and creating heat-safe environments at home and outdoors.

Session 2: Parents and caregivers of young children

Aimed at parents and caregivers this session covers important topics such as recognising symptoms of common childhood illnesses, understanding when to seek medical attention, and offering guidance on basic first aid and preventive care. Topics covered include:

  • when to call Triple Zero (000) and what to expect  

  • common medical conditions in children and how to address them 

  • where to find reliable sources of information about children's health  

  • alternative healthcare pathways to manage non-urgent care at home
