Council meetings
The City of Stonnington's Council comprises nine elected Councillors, three representing each of the city's three wards. Council is responsible for making decisions on behalf of the community.
Council meetings are conducted in line with City of Stonnington Governance Rules(PDF, 462KB) and are open to the public to attend or watch online via livestream. They take place at 7pm on Monday evenings every fortnight (except for public holidays) at the Malvern Town Hall, corner of High Street and Glenferrie Road, Malvern.
Public attendance at meetings
Members of the public present at the meeting must remain silent during the proceedings other than when specifically invited to address the meeting. The Chair may remove a person from the meeting for interjecting or offensive gesture after being asked to desist, and the Chair may cause the removal of any object or material that is deemed by the Chair to be objectionable or disrespectful. The Chair may call a break in the meeting for either a short time, or to resume another day if the behavior at the Council table or in the gallery is significantly disrupting the Meeting.
The City of Stonnington Council Chamber Gallery is able to hold a maximum of 43 people, including visitors, Councillors and Council staff. Any members of the public wishing to attend once the Council Chamber Gallery capacity has been reached will be directed to the Upper Foyer overflow area to view the livestream of the meeting. The Upper Foyer has a maximum capacity of 100 people. In the event that both the Council Chamber Gallery and the Upper Foyer have reached capacity, additional attendees will be turned away and invited to watch the meeting via livestream at home.
If Council anticipates an increased attendance at a particular meeting, it will make every effort to arrange a larger overflow area.
