Rates pension concession application

Certain concession cards allow you to claim reduced Council rates. In 2025-26, a pension concession offers a 50% discount on your Council rates, up to a maximum of $266 a year.

Who can apply for reduced rates?

You can apply for rates concession if you hold any of the following:

  • Pensioner Concession Card (from Centrelink or Department of Veterans' Affairs)
  • Department of Veterans' Affairs Gold Card – War Widow
  • Department of Veterans' Affairs Gold Card – Totally and Permanently Incapacitated (TPI)
  • Department of Veterans’ Affairs Gold Card – EDA
  • Department of Veterans’ Affairs Gold Card – POW

Please note POW or EDA card holders must apply for rebates via the Victorian concessions and allowances portal on the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing website.

How to apply

Log in to the platform to apply. If you don’t have an account, you can sign up. Find out more about our online self-service platform.

Once logged in:

  • select ‘All reports and requests’ under Report an issue
  • select ‘Rates – Pension concession application’ in the drop-down
  • follow the prompts.

Apply for a pension concession

You can track the progress of your applications anytime through the platform.

Emergency Services and Volunteers Fund concession

You are also eligible for a $50 discount on the Emergency Services and Volunteers Fund.

You apply for this in the same way as the rates rebate.

You don’t need to apply for it if you already get a pension rebate on your rates.
