Located in the heart of Stonnington, Malvern Town Hall is an outstanding example of Renaissance Revival style architecture. The Banquet Hall features a stage, coffered ceilings, rich crimson-painted walls and carpeted floor, creating a warm and intimate environment for guests. The Banquet Hall is ideal for community events, celebrations, conferences, auctions and markets.

Hire of the space includes access to the bathrooms and commercial kitchen at no additional charge. The Malvern Town Hall Main Hall may be hired as an extra room. Malvern Town Hall provides seating, tables, a PA system and a projector. The Banquet Hall is wheelchair accessible from the front entrance.

 

Booking process

  1. Check venue availability for your dates through our online enquiry system.
  2. To make a tentative booking and to schedule a venue inspection, make a booking enquiry. Tentative bookings are held for 14 days.
  3. Inspect the venue.
  4. If you find the venue suitable after your inspection, let us know if you want to proceed with your booking. We will send you a booking package including the application form.
  5. Complete and return the form together with the bond within 14 days.

We will arrange a pre-event meeting one week prior to your event to go over the requirements for the event which include:

Parking

There is parking for caterers and unloading in the compound at the rear of the Town Hall. There are 60 4-hour parking spaces at the rear of the Town Hall between 9 am to 6 pm Monday to Friday.

Venue officer and key access

The venue is heritage listed and requires a Council Venue Officer present at all times to ensure that the conditions of hire are followed.

On the day the Venue Officer will provide facility information, open and lock the doors, and oversee emergency and safety procedures. The Venue Officer will go over a briefing sheet with you before and after your function, to make sure requirements are addressed to ensure your full bond is returned.

Post-event cleanup and storage

  • Pack up your belongings, and take down decorations after your event. Furniture will be packed up by cleaners.
  • Dispose of all rubbish in the bins and garbage bags provided. Food scraps must be tied up in bags, and recycling placed in correct bins with cardboard flattened.

If you need to leave anything behind in the venue you can pre-arrange this with the Venue Officer.

Overtime charges

You are responsible for attendees, caterers or contractors vacating on time. Staying overtime will incur additional charges of double the hourly rate.

Extra hours can be pre-arranged at a cost of $375 per hour.

Seated balcony area

There is fixed seating at the Malvern Town Hall balcony for 150 people.

Partysafe form

Partysafe is a Victoria Police initiative where you can register your party with the police to minimise the risks to safety. You can register online or at your local police station.

If there will be alcohol at your function and you do not have a liquor license, please register for Partysafe and forward your stamped form to venues_booking@stonnington.vic.gov.au

Getting there

We encourage attendees to be environmentally conscious when making travel arrangements.

Limited parking is available at Malvern Town Hall and in the surrounding streets. As such, we strongly recommend walking, riding, or using public transport. If you choose to drive, please allow plenty of time to find a parking space.
