COVID-19 UPDATE: Changes to parking restriction enforcement and car park fees

Updated Department of Health and Human Services guidelines and pending reopening of retail and hospitality businesses means we will begin enforcing of some parking restrictions from mid-October. 

To avoid a fine, please make sure you check the parking signs and adhere to the restrictions.

During a grace period, drivers will be issued an official warning to remind them restrictions are now being enforced.

From Monday 12 October 2020

  • We will enforce restrictions around schools to ensure the safety of children and other road users

  • We will enforce safety and obstruction restrictions*

  • We will not enforce street sweeping No Parking restrictions

 

From Monday 19 October 2020

  • We will enforce timed parking restrictions (green signs) and residential permit zones. During a grace period, official warnings will be issued to remind drivers of parking restrictions

  • We will enforce restrictions around schools

  • We will enforce safety and obstruction restrictions*

  • We will not enforce the Street Sweeping No Parking restrictions

*Safety and Obstruction restrictions

  • Clearway and No Stopping signs
  • Loading Zone, Truck Zone, Mail Zone, Bus Zone and Taxi Zone signs
  • No Parking signs on main arterial roads and other areas only on request
  • Obstructions such as driveways, within 10m of an intersection and footpaths
  • Disabled parking bays


Council car parks

Pay and display car parks will not require payment of fees until at least 31 October 2020.

Payment will still be required at the following pay on exit car parks:

  1. Prahran Square

  2. Elizabeth Street, South Yarra (Prahran Market)

The following car parks are closed for casual users:

  1. MacFarlan Street, South Yarra

  2. King Street, Prahran
     

Please note: our parking officers will maintain social distancing when patrolling the streets, wear a face mask, practice good hygiene and will avoid interactions in close spaces.
