Enjoy Autumnal Sundays at Home is where the heart is: create art inspired home décor—a 4-week clay workshop series at the Duldig Studio museum and sculpture garden. Held on Sunday afternoons from May 18 to June 14, we invite you to explore the art of hand-built ceramics inspired by the home of artists Karl and Slawa Duldig.
Take a closer look at original works of art to understand techniques and processes of hand-built clay works. Discover sources of inspiration, ways to build form and apply surface decoration using clays, tools, modelling and found objects.
The course is facilitated by sculptor and workshop leader Stefan Damschke.
All tools and materials are provided (excluding optional paint for post-firing), and works will be kiln-fired offsite and available for collection after the final session.
Whether you're an experienced ceramicist or a curious beginner, this program offers a rich, inspiring journey into functional art-making and the joy of creating beautiful, personal pieces for your home.
Week 1 | Lamp Shade Base
Start your creative journey with a guided viewing of lamp shades and decorative objects in the living and dining rooms of the artists’ home. Sketch or record your favourite design features and exchange ideas with others, Be introduced to the workshop space and tools and experiment with clay coiling, decorative designs, and joining techniques.
Week 2 | Vase or Vessel
Focus on a range of vases and clay sculptures throughout the artists’ home. Explore the design flexibility and structural strength of clay slab technique in the workshop, apply and experiment with two different clays, decorative incision work and stamping with found objects.
Week 3 | Planter or platter
Encounter the mysterious Golden Singapore Head - a modelled portrait and painted sculpture all in one! Be inspired to make a figurative planter, platter or expressive sculptural form using clay modelling or coil technique. Back at home continue your artistic practice with optional paint applications post firing.
Week 4 | Finishing Workshop and more
The final session will be the “finishing salon” for your hand-crafted homewares before they are kiln fired offsite. Take the time to complete unfinished work, smooth surfaces, and add final touches. Conclude the workshop series with a display and photograph your works in our artists’ corner.
