Temporary Advertising on Council Land Permit

Overview

If you are a community organisation running an event in Stonnington, you can apply to place up to two advertising signs on Council land.

Your event must be:

  • held on a set date for a specific time
  • beneficial to the local community
  • non-commercial
  • held in the City of Stonnington.

This permit is for fun runs, sponsored community events, sporting club days, fetes or farmer’s markets. If you’re running an event, you may also need an Event Permit and/or a Temporary Food Business Permit.

The sign/s can be placed at these locations, or other areas may be permitted close by:

  • Central Park
  • Percy Treyvaud Memorial Park
  • Como Park
  • Malvern Gardens
  • Orrong Romanis Reserve
  • Sir Robert Menzies Reserve
  • Waverley Oval

How to apply

To apply, please contact our Local Laws team at footpathtrading@stonnington.vic.gov.au with:

  • name of your organisation
  • type of event
  • time, date and location of your event
  • ideal location/s for the sign/s
  • Certificate of Currency for public liability insurance covering a minimum of $20 million.

If there is more than one application for the same location, the first application to meet all criteria will be approved.

When your application is approved, we will provide you with a map indicating where the sign/s must be placed.

You will need a Certificate of Currency for public liability insurance for a minimum of $20 million, covering the period of the event.

What are the conditions to have an Advertising on Council Land Permit?

  1. The proposed sign must not exceed five square metres.
  2. The sponsor’s logo/name can only take up to 25 percent of the total area on the sign.
  3. An organisation can only place one sign design at two different sites, in approved locations as specified on the permit.
  4. Signs may be displayed for up to three weeks before the event and must be removed by the expiry date specified on the permit.
  5. Signs must be freestanding and cannot be attached to trees, light poles, Council assets, buildings or any other structure unless stated otherwise.
  6. Signs must be structurally sound, maintained in a clean condition and not obstruct or obscure motor vehicles or pedestrians.
  7. Signs must be of a professional quality and not illuminated in any way.
  8. Failure to comply with the conditions of the permit may result in a breach of the City of Stonnington General Local Law 2018 (No.1). Council reserves the right to remove any signs and charge for the cost of removal. An applicable fine may be issued to the organisation concerned.
  9. The organisation must pay for all costs to install and remove the sign/s.
