Thomas Oval Dog Park

In May 2020, the City of Stonnington was awarded funding under the Victorian Government’s Local Parks Program (dog parks) to develop a dedicated dog park at Thomas Oval in South Yarra. The City of Stonnington also committed funding to the project from the annual financial budget.

To inform a concept design for the park, we reached out to the community to understand what they thought would make a great dog park and what they would like to see in the design.

Ideas from the initial consultation were informed a draft concept that was presented to the community in March 2021 for feedback.

The final design was endorsed by Council in July 2021 and the surrounding community informed.

Construction of the Thomas Oval dog park started in April 2022 and the park is expected to be ready to open in Spring 2022.

Consultation

We consulted with the nearby community, dog walkers, visitors to Thomas Oval and stakeholders throughout the process of developing the dog park design.

Initially we reached out for ideas that were used to inform a draft design, and then sought feedback on the draft.

Community input from both rounds of engagement assisted in the delivery of a final design that was endorsed by Council in July 2021.
