The Secret World of Food at Prahran Market

We know fresh food is delicious — but do we really know where it comes from?

The Secret World of Food is a FREE playful, interactive experience that helps kids (and their families) connect the dots between farm, market, kitchen and compost.

Through hands-on activities, children become food explorers as they journey through the full food cycle in a fun and engaging way.

Delivered as part of the Winter Series, this free activation invites families into the heart of Prahran Market to explore, learn and play together.

What to expect

Families are invited to explore five themed stations covering the full food journey: growing, transporting, selling, preparing, and composting food.

Each child receives a “food passport” to guide their journey and collect stamps along the way:

  • Goodness Garden: Pick fresh ‘produce’ from the garden bed.
  • Delivery Co: Deliver food to the market.
  • The Market: Buy and sell fruits and vegetables.
  • Kitchen Capers: Prepare a delicious ‘meal’ in the kitchen.
  • Compost: Pop leftovers in the compost and feed the worms.

Plus, take the experience home with seeds from the Stonnington Seed Library and start your own food journey.
