Council elections

In Victoria, general council elections are held every four years and it is compulsory to vote.

The next general council election is scheduled for Saturday, 24 October 2020.

Election period

In the lead-up to an election an Election Period is implemented to avoid actions and decisions that may be interpreted as influencing voters or binding on an incoming Council.

Ahead of the October 2020 election, Council adopted the Governance Rules and Election Period Policy(PDF, 503KB) on 31 August 2020.

The policy sets out the procedures to be applied during an election and are applicable to Councillors and Council staff.
