Prahran Aquatic refurbishment

Over several stages we will be refurbishing the popular Prahran Aquatic Centre. Open since 1963 and previously updated in the 90s, the pools and buildings are showing signs of wear and tear and need a refresh.

The first package of works was delivered in 2023, when the Centre was closed for a months long refurbishment of the 50-metre and toddler pools and surrounds, plus repairs and upgrades to the grandstand seating, changerooms and spa and sauna areas.

In 2025, the aged timber sundeck overlooking the 50-metre pool will be renewed with composite timber decking that will improve the quality, safety and durability of the deck while retaining the look and feel of timber.

In 2026, we are renewing the grandstand at the centre. We will remove all existing timber bench seating, repair the concrete bleachers, and renew the existing timber stairs with composite timber.

The refurbishment works will bring the centre to a serviceable level for the mid-term, with a full redevelopment planned for later through the Princes Gardens masterplan implementation.
