About the artist

Giovanna Da Silva is a Brazilian-Australian artist based in Melbourne working across studio practice, digital art and community murals. Her work is influenced and inspired by her Brazilian heritage and her global identity. Giovanna’s artistic style marries designs found in nature with the bold lines of urban architecture and reflects how visual art can be seen as a global language. She aims to bring colour to communities and find moments of connection along the way.

About the work

Inspired by themes of ‘home’ and her personal experience living on Bangs Street, Giovanna invited input and reflections from local residents.

The mural is a playful reflection on her time spent in the neighbourhood, drawing from colours and architectural elements found locally, as well as ideas voiced by the community. Giovanna hopes the mural will strike nostalgia with thoughts of home, and that it will be enjoyed for years to come by the ones who cross paths with it in their everyday lives.

Giovanna Da Silva’s mural was commissioned as part of a new parklet development guided by our Open Spaces Strategy and can be seen in the Bangs Street Pocket Park (22 Bangs Street), Windsor.
