Works zone permit

We are currently experiencing an unusually high volume of permit requests. There may be a delay in the response to your call or permit request.

You need a works zone permit to park vehicles in a designated area of a property during construction. Permits are issued for a minimum of six months and apply to the frontage of the construction site.

If you need the permit for a longer period, please note that we charge fees in six-month increments.

Applications can take 20 working days to be assessed and processed.

You can apply for an extension of time. We will only grant an extension after we assess its impact on the neighbourhood and you pay the relevant fee.

Key information

If you start to make a payment in our online platform but don't complete the transaction, you must wait 15 minutes before trying again.

Work zone permits are only valid during the following hours:

  • Monday to Friday: 7am to 5pm
  • Saturday: 9am to 3pm

It’s also important to remember that:

  • all clearway restrictions override permits
  • you must make payment before any signs are installed
  • the permit is not effective until signs are installed
  • works zone permits don’t cover bins or construction equipment on public land – you will need a separate permit for this activity.

How to apply

You will need to provide the following with your application:

  • fully dimensioned site plan showing the proposed road area, any existing parking control signage and any council furniture or infrastructure
