Request pre-application advice

Some land use and permit applications are more complex than others.

You can ask for pre-application advice if your application is related to:

  • developments where it’s not clear from policy if it complies with relevant planning controls
  • developments of three levels or more
  • full demolition of a building in a Heritage Overlay and proposed replacement building
  • multi-unit developments
  • non-residential use of a residential zone.

When submitting your request, you will need to provide the following documents and appropriate fee:

  • a completed pre-application form or clear summary of the project
  • a site plan and any photos or concept drawings of the site
  • any other information to help us assess your proposal
  • $134.00 fee for a single residential dwelling (as of 1 July 2023)
  • $186.60 fee for any proposal other than a single residential dwelling (as of 1 July 2023)

You can submit a request online through our ePlanning portal. Once the application is lodged our support team will issue a fee request.

Submit a request online

When you've done this and provided enough information on your proposal, a planner will assess your proposal and give you advice.

If you're unable to apply online, download and complete the request for pre-application advice form(PDF, 235KB). You can mail the completed form, along with all relevant documents, to the address included in the form.

If you need further advice, call a Stonnington duty planner on 03 8290 3329 or visit our Service Centre during business hours. We suggest visiting outside of our peak times (midday to 2 pm), so that we have more time to talk.
