Stonnington Planning Scheme
The Stonnington Planning Scheme applies to all public and private land in the City of Stonnington. It contains state, regional and local planning policies and controls, and sets out the direction for using, developing and protecting land within the city. It is a legal document prepared by Council and approved by the Minister for Planning.
The Planning Scheme is made up of the following:
- Municipal Planning Strategy (MPS): includes a vision and strategic direction for the city
- Planning Policy Framework (PPF): contains broad strategies that apply to an area. The State Government sets the planning policy direction. Council then develops local planning policies that align to the state policy.
- Ordinance: includes zones, overlays and other provisions that regulate for the different types of land use and development in Stonnington
- General Provisions and Operation Provisions: provides guidance on how the Planning Scheme is applied in practice
- Planning Scheme maps – visual mapping showing where zones, overlays and other controls apply across Stonnington.
