Works zone permit

We are currently experiencing an unusually high volume of permit requests. There may be a delay in the response to your call or permit request.

A work zone permit is designed to allow trades vehicles parking in a designated area of a property (usually the property frontage) during construction. Permits are issued for a minimum of six months. If you require a longer period, please note that we charge fees in six-month increments.

Working out of a works zone is not permitted. The permit is for vehicle parking only.

The following works are not covered by a works zone permit and require a separate Road Occupation permit.

  • concrete pour and crane lifting devices
  • placement of a site shed or amenities on the nature strip
  • skip bin replacement
  • spoil removal and excavation works
  • storage of building materials on the nature strip or roadway

Please note, this list is not exhaustive.

Key information

Work zone permits are only valid during the following hours:

  • Monday to Friday: 7am to 5pm
  • Saturday: 9am to 3pm

It’s also important to remember that:

  • all clearway restrictions override permits
  • you must make payment before any signs are installed
  • the permit is not effective until signs are installed
  • works zone permits don’t cover bins or construction equipment on public land – you will need a separate permit for this activity.

How to apply

You will need to provide the following with your application:

  • fully dimensioned site plan showing the proposed road area, any existing parking control signage and any council furniture or infrastructure
