Creative writing (Term 4)

Learn the craft of writing short stories and poetry in this welcoming course for beginners.

Each student will be encouraged to unearth the creative potential of their own minds. Cover the foundations from inspiration, narrative, character and place to rhythm, breadth and purpose. Take part in weekly readings and writing exercises. Explore different styles of literature and develop your own storytelling voice.

This introductory program will cover:

  • inspiration and ideas that compel us to write
  • short stories and their structure, form and function
  • character depth and arc
  • writing realistic dialogue
  • poetry of place and inner worlds in relation to environment
  • writing prompts for stimulating the imagination and silencing the inner critic.

This course is a Learn Local course. Learn Local (ACFE) funded places are for those wishing to upskill, try for a new career, return to study or volunteer regardless of prior training or employment status. Contact us to find out if you are eligible.
