Order, elegance, obsession

Order, Elegance, Obsession

Conductor Lindsay Ryan makes her debut with Stonnington Symphony with this wonderfully curated program Order, Elegance, Obsession. It traces a compelling arc through three masterworks that balance classical poise with romantic intensity.

Bach’s Concerto for Oboe and Violin opens the performance with crystalline dialogue and architectural clarity, where two solo voices intertwine in music of poise and balance.

Haydn’s Cello Concerto No. 1 follows, pairing elegance with wit and expressive warmth as the cello steps into the spotlight with charm and virtuosity.

The program culminates in Berlioz’s Symphonie Fantastique, a bold and obsessive musical journey that explodes the boundaries of form and imagination, plunging the listener into a vivid world of passion, dreams, and delirium.

Together, these works chart a progression from order to abandon, revealing how elegance can give way to obsession in unforgettable sound.

Stonnington Symphony is a not-for-profit, registered charitable organisation based in Melbourne’s south-eastern suburbs. It is widely regarded as one of Australia’s finest community orchestras, as well as being a flagship community arts organisation in the City of Stonnington.
