Rita Marcotulli – Melbourne International Jazz Festival

Rita-Marcotulli

Grand master of Italian jazz, Rita Marcotulli makes her long-awaited Australian debut, showcasing a remarkable career spanning nearly five decades as a pianist and composer.

Rita Marcotulli catapulted into the spotlight in the 1980s, through a series of high-profile collaborations with artists including Richard Galliano, Chet Baker and Enrico Rava. She was also nominated for Best Young Talent in the NPR Music Jazz Critics Poll and toured the U.S. and European tour with drummer Billy Cobham. Since then, she has formed long-term musical partnerships with legendary jazz artists such as Pat Metheny, Dewey Redman and Joe Lovano. She has also composed music for several acclaimed films.

Marcotulli’s impeccable technique and effortless style – drawing on folk and pop as well as seminal jazz influences like Thelonious Monk and John Coltrane – have earned her a reputation as one of Europe’s most distinctive and expressive jazz voices.

Presented by Melbourne International Jazz Festival and supported by City of Stonnington.
