Have your say on proposed names for four local parks

We're proposing to officially name four parks in South Yarra, Armadale and Malvern.

The proposed names recognise people who have contributed to the community, as well as culture and history connected to the local area. These parks do not currently have formally registered names and are instead known by their location or nearby streets. 

We follow a consistent process when naming places, roads and features to:

We're seeking your feedback on the proposed names by Thursday 8 October through the Connect Stonnington website.

Council will carefully consider the community’s views alongside relevant naming requirements at a public Council meeting in late-October 2026 before any decision is made. 

About the proposals 

We’re proposing new official names for the following local parks:

  • Bailey Avenue Park in Armadale would become Claude Ullin Park, in recognition of former Councillor and Mayor Claude Ullin AM.

  • Dixon Street Park in Malvern would become Phyllis Gration Park, in recognition of local disability advocate and pioneer Phyllis Gration AM who established what is now Vision Australia Seeing Eye Dogs.

  • Rockley Gardens in South Yarra would become John Chandler Gardens, in recognition of former Councillor and Mayor John Chandler OAM.

  • South Yarra Siding in South Yarra would become Barring Baluk Park. Barring Baluk means ‘where we walk’ and acknowledges the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung people of the East Kulin Nations as Traditional Owners of this land.
