Request a Pre-Purchase Inspection Report

The City of Stonnington has moved to a new online service system. There may be processing delays during the transition period.

If you are interested in buying a business in the City of Stonnington, you can request a Pre-Purchase Inspection Report from Council. We will inspect the business and send you a report that details:

  • any non-compliant cleanliness or maintenance items we identified
  • information about the current registration, including the annual cost and expiry date.

How to request a report

Complete the Owner’s Consent Form

You need the current business owner’s consent before we can inspect the property and complete the Pre-Purchase Inspection Report. Download and complete the Owner's Consent Form(PDF, 886KB) to upload to your application.

Request the report online

Please ensure you have payment for the fee and a completed Owner's Consent Form.

Log in to the platform to apply. If you don’t have an account, you can sign up. Find out more about our online self-service platform.

Once logged in:

  • select ‘All applications and permits’ under Apply for something
  • find ‘Pre-Purchase Inspection Report for Food/Health Business’ and select ‘Start’
  • follow the prompts.

Have the property inspected

An Environmental Health officer will be in touch with the current business owner to organise a time to inspect the property.

Receive your Pre-Purchase Inspection Report

We will send the completed report via email. The current business owner will also get a copy of the report.

Apply for business registration

If you want to go ahead with purchasing an existing food business, you will need to register your business with Council. 

If you are taking over an existing accommodation or health business, you must apply for a transfer of business registration with Council.
