The land forming Glen Iris Park was acquired by Malvern Council between 1918 and 1940. In the 1920s Council laid cricket pitches, created an avenue of trees using elms replanted from Edgar Street Reserve, and built up the banks around the oval to accommodate onlookers at this popular sporting venue.
The cricket reserve was named in recognition of former Mayor, Cr T. H. King, during the late 1960s. The pavilion, which was redeveloped in 2013, showcases environmentally sustainable design principles and incorporates an environmental education centre.
