2024 Council election

The next election of Councillors will be held in October 2024.

The election will be managed by the Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC).  For more information visit Victorian Electoral Commission.

The election will be by postal ballot only.

The VEC will open an office at the Malvern Town Hall at 9am on Monday 9 September to support the conduct of the election.

Voting and the Voters’ Roll for the October election

The Voters’ Roll for the October 2024 election closed at 4 pm on Wednesday 7 August.  It is too late to enrol or update your enrolment for this election.  If you are enrolled, you must vote. Voting is compulsory. If you don't vote you might receive a fine.  If you wish to check your enrolment, visit the Victorian Electoral Commission website here:  Check My Enrolment | Victorian Electoral Commission (vec.vic.gov.au)  If you have moved address since the Voters’ Roll closed on 7 August you can ask the VEC to redirect your ballot paper here: Online redirection of ballot pack application (vec.vic.gov.au)

Oversight of elections

As the dedicated integrity agency for councils, the Local Government Inspectorate (LGI) has oversight for the activities of councils, councillors and candidates under the electoral provisions of the Local Government Act 2020. The LGI works in partnership with other government agencies to help ensure a fair and democratic election process.
